In 2005, while working as a consultant to nonprofits, I learned of the 10 % rule that a lot of nonprofits were trying to attain. The 10 % rule was a theoretical limit on how much funds a nonprofit should devote to Administrative costs. The truth is 1 of 2 things, either most large nonprofits didn’t even try to hit this mark with most hovering around a thirty percent administrative rate.

Or they were able to label costs and positions in a way that made them seem more program focused that they were. The ten percent guideline without a practical policy still retains an ideological truth to all businesses. How will you, a business leader, reduce the expense of the administrative work to enable you to spend more resources on the core mission of your business.

There is essential work for each company; accounting, individual source management, marketing, administrative support. All these are not wishful thinking items just, but instead, these are critical to the success of your organization. But too many leaders think the cost is a deterrent and end up suffering the painful truth that lack of this work is the reason for most businesses failing. One way of staying away from this unpleasant truth while also getting the most out of your limited resources is to outsource some the work. A cost-effective and efficient specialist can match one of four categories.
